Whom Will We Follow?

Each of us will make a choice to follow God or some other belief system,  but we will believe something.

There are many voices today proclaiming that God is a God of love, but little is being taught  about the danger of rebelling against God.   Choosing what seems best to us, thinking that all is well because we see no immediate harm,  actually sets us on a course away from God's will.

Some years ago, a certain political leader made frequent use of Christian vocabulary. He talked about the blessing of the Almighty and the Christian beliefs which would become the pillars of the new government.  He spoke of his spirituality to the press, especially to the church papers.  He displayed his tattered Bible and declared that he drew the strength for his great work from it as many Christians welcomed him as sent from God.

We are told to test the spirits in 1 John 4 New King James Version (NKJV):

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

Who was this leader? It was Adolf Hitler, a master of religious hypocrisy! (Today in the Word, June 3, 1989).
